Kiss Me Kate - 3314 Words
As a modern audience, we must remember to be mindful of the society in which Shakespeare wrote The Taming of the Shrew when we analyze it. This was a time when marriages were made for the convenience of the fathers far more often than for a love already existing between the bride and groom; people often were married without having known each other for very long, and sometimes without ever having met. Instead, one hoped to find love within the marriage once it was in place, to learn to love ones partner--there really were no better options. It is also doubtful that acting upon love at first sight, in any society, necessarily brings greater happiness in marriage than does the slowly-developed, consistent love of a married couple whoâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Petruchio plans to win this woman over by simply confronting her temper with flattery. Of course, the infamous Kate lives up to her reputation and is every bit as cold and difficult as Petruchio has been told to expect. After observing arguments, base insults, and even a blow inflicted upon Petruchio, the audience begins to lose faith in Petruchios unusual methods. This extremely clever gentleman, however, will not easily give up such a dowry. Still, he does not wish to waste a vast amount of time and energy on a woman that could just as soon walk away and leave him looking foolish despite his best efforts. He knows that, in order to tame her, he must first obtain her. Though little ground has been gained in the fight against her inflexibility, Petruchio, upon Baptistas return, tells him the outcome of his meeting with Kate. He speaks of a bond so natural and strong that they have agreed to marry on the following Sunday. Instantly, Kate recognizes the lies in his assertions and tries to convince her father of the true nature of their meeting, calling Petruchio, ...one half lunatic, a madcap ruffian and a swearing Jack, that thinks with oaths to face the matter out (II, i). Though one might expect Kates complaints sway her fathers opinion of Petruchio, Petruchio adheres to his original statements. My First Day in College free essay sample
Some say that first day in college was a beautiful experience but for me it was like a complete life in itself. My first day in college was an experience worth remembering because of three reasons: I met new friends, saw a new environment and knew new teachers. On my first day in college, I met new friends and I find them worth having. At the start, all the new faces around me made me feel like they were looking at me as if I was an interesting creature that they have never seen before. It made me feel lonely that made my first hour at the campus miserable. At that moment, I missed all of my old friends whether they were nice or rude to me. I remembered all my good old days, the good old friends, and all the good old memories I spent with them. But later on, things went back to normal as if I went back to my old life. I was so glad at that time for having them as my new friends who will be my comrades onwards in continuing my life as a college student. In addition, I saw new environment and it made me feel more comfortable. At my first glimpse at my new campus, the air smelled new, the faces looked new and the environment seemed so different that it took my anxieties away. As we roamed around with my new friends in every college buildings, we saw awesome facilities supported by high technologies. It was my first time seeing those and I was so amzed. It might sound that I was just too ignorant in my new world, but it just really seemed new to me; the place, the surrounding as well as the people around me. The great experience with the new environment I have now had helped me to adjust in my college life at ease. Most of all, I met new teachers and I find them adorable. At first, it seemed most of them looked so serious, so strict and so mean in handling classes. As what my old friends told me about them that no matter how you strive to become an outstanding student, they will always try to fail you. But at that moment, I relized I was wrong. As I looked at them, some were wearing their lovely faces. They were those who always smile when you look at them. Some also looked funny and even some looked horrible. I still look forward in meeting and knowing all of them. Starting something new can be scary, but my first day in college did not even approach the scariness that I had managed to build in my head by the time it arrived because of full of confidence and determination. In fact, it actually gave me experiences worth to be kept and treasured. It was a whole new world indeed, but somehow I felt myself to be a part of this new place. I realized its people who create boundaries, places do not.

Ownership of handguns an Example of the Topic Government and Law Essays by
Ownership of handguns The case has its controversy as the citizens of Columbia insist that they should be allowed to own handguns within the district. This is in opposition with the 1975 Act of the Supreme Court, "The Firearms Control Regulation Act of the 1975". There is a claim that, this Act is violating individual right to own firearms, yet the second Amendment of this Act protects individual's rights to own firearms unconnected with military service, and use that arm for lawful traditional purpose. (Blackwell, 2008) Need essay sample on "Ownership of handguns" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed This case is a controversial case affecting all the Americans who own guns. Whether they are constitutionally allowed to own gun or not, their ownership is not defined as a protected right or privilege that the government can restrict at will. More over, this case affects the entire body of the presidential aspirants. Either Senator Obama or Clinton will emerge the most anti-gun Democrat Nominee. (Blackwell, 2008) The reason as to why the government is against handgun possession is that, gun ban will protect women, minority, the elderly, and the disabled, who are the most vulnerable to the freedom of gun ownership. The cases of violence, especially from the white adult males have become very common of late. There is a stereotype that, this group of people, at the prime of life is prone to causing much violence in the society. The court seeks to disarm these people. (Head, 2008) However, the same argue that, they are the most prone to attacks, and need to be armed for individual protection purposes. This case is in the Courts, preferably Supreme Court, in the Congress, and in the media. The Supreme Court is yet to voice out its decision concerning the issue. The Congress needs to speak its side too. (Kopel, Halbrook, & Korwin, 2007) This is why it is felt that this case will influence the presidential race in the United State. It is also in the media. The public is allowed to register their opinions concerning the case. However, the Supreme Court has the final say. The first time, this case was voiced in Columbia in 1939, and it was heard again in Canada, and other several Districts in the States have had similar arguments. People have been arguing against the case, portraying their need to keep handguns. (Kopel, Halbrook, & Korwin, 2007) The Columbians actually had the case dismissed upholding 2-1, by Circuit Court of Appeal in 2007. (Head, 2008) Reference: Blackwell, K. (2008). The Roe v.
